Candidate for HD 13 supports Roadless Rule
As a lifelong Montanan, public landowner, and candidate for Montana House District 13, I oppose repealing the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule.
Montana’s public lands are more than just places on a map. Public lands are at the very core of what it means to be a Montanan. It’s where we and many generations before us have hunted, fished, hiked, camped and experienced the wild spaces that define our state.
This conservation ethic was championed by Montana’s former U.S. Senator Lee Metcalf, who spent his career fighting for protections for wilderness, clean air and water, and the public lands that we all cherish.
Our public lands should never become another commodity available to the highest bidder. We simply can’t allow Montana’s wild spaces to become playgrounds for the ultra-wealthy and exclusive interests. All of us are public landowners and we have a responsibility to protect them.
Protecting roadless areas does not mean opposing wildfire mitigation and responsible forest management, agriculture, timber, or economic development. We can absolutely support working lands, good-paying jobs, healthy forests and rural economies while preserving places that deserve to remain wild and unpaved.
I urge the USDA and U.S. Forest Service to preserve the Roadless Rule.
Montana’s public lands are all of our inheritance, not an investment opportunity for the highest bidder.
